Starlink has reached a significant landmark as it set to go operational in Cameroon. Starlink’s entry into Cameroon’s satellite Internet market has reached a decisive milestone.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Board (ART) has finalized the draft concession agreement and the specifications governing the operations of Starlink Cameroun Sarl. These documents have been forwarded to the technical supervisory authority for the continuation of the procedure that could lead to the granting of an authorization, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, announced in late November during the presentation of the 2026 budget.

Starlink had Earlier been Suspended
Considered sensitive by the authorities, the case raises major issues related to digital sovereignty, data security, and competition. In 2024, due to the lack of regulatory approval, Starlink suspended its services in Cameroon, despite continued use through roaming. The government subsequently ordered the blocking of these unauthorized accesses.
Discussions initiated in June 2025 between the government and Starlink enabled the submission of an application compliant with the regulatory framework. This progress comes at a time of strong growth in the Internet market, with more than 15 million active subscriptions recorded in 2024.
If official approval is granted, Starlink could help strengthen broadband access, particularly in underserved areas, subject to strict obligations regarding service quality and respect for digital sovereignty.
